Happy New Year to everyone! After a very welcome fortnights break, (It seems we timed it just right as the pub was pretty much cut off under 2 feet of snow during the first 2 weeks of January), here we are back in the saddle again, determined to offer even more exciting and delicious menus in 2010.
The first date in the diary is Valentines Day and we'll be offering a free glass of champagne with a 5 course tasting menu for £35.00 or £45.00 with 3 glasses of quality wine.
The next pub quiz is on Sunday the 21st Feb, so get your teams together and book as soon as you can. As last time, the Quiz is £12 each, which includes a winter warmer meal and a drink and a £2 donation to our waitress, Ruth's "men in sheds" (an Age Concern project)
Shortly after that we have Mothers Day on March the 14th so please book early as Sundays here are always busy so that one will be booked up soon.
On the food front, as always, we are trying to keep the menu as seasonal and locally sourced as possible. January is rather a lean month, though we have lots of localgame; pigeon, rabbit, pheasant, partridge and venison of course, and then we have the first forced rhubarb from Yorkshire. Did you know that this rhubarb is picked in the dark, because any light getting into the forcing shed would stop the growth of the entire crop.
So, expect gameterrine with poached rhubarb. For a "wintery dish", on the menu at the moment, we have Ox cheek suet pudding with oysters, and soon to come, Braised Oxtail and Bath chaps!
As always we have our weekday special set menu: 2 courses for £10.95 or 3 for £14.95 available Monday to Friday lunch and Tuesday to Thursday dinner.
Please check the website for latest menus.
All the best, Dan & Tracey |
